The v0.0.1a release of Battle-Arena Reyka is nowhere near the first piece of software I've put into the world, but it is certainly the most personal. One thing that I think is poorly understood about art, is that essentially works like this are instantiate daydreams on the part of their creators, and made for the benefit of themselves as much as they are for the audience. I think this is true of all art -- the artist breaks off a part of themselves, and shares it with you in this form or that. Be it a poem, a novel, a painting, a photograph... an extremely lurid videogame. Whatever. You're looking at a thing, but crucially, you're also looking at the person who made it.

The preponderance of discord and internet forum community that's grown up around fetishist erotica can have an echo-chamber-like isolating effect, making it easy to forget what an act of bravery that is. To say Here is my daydream, I hope you enjoy it, much less here is my erotic daydream, hope you enjoy it. A potentially career-ruining, or even unlawful act depending on where you're sitting with your laptop, but it's all business as usual on discord and f95zone. I look up from my laptop to be asked "what possessed you to create such a vile piece of trash" only to look back down at my screen to be asked "Are you planning to give any of the girls dicks?". That this doesn't seem to strike anyone as surreal is, to me, the most surreal thing about it.

Even more interestingly, I don't believe those questions really come from different people; rather, I think they just come from people in different contexts. I'm pretty sure we're all living through that same duality of cognition -- of the prim and the pornographic. That those two outwardly orthogonal traits are actually reasonable and expected components of every healthy intellect. At least that's what I tell myself when I'm busting out dubcon lesbian wrestling video-games.

Anyway, after a brief hiatus for personal bullshit, I'm back at it. I have a lot of programming work to do around the training UI.. the part of the game that's going to enable you to teach Maya new wrestling moves n-times per day.

Mostly what I'm struggling through is an initial move-set that's balanced between the three styles and doesn't break the bank with respect to the assets I will need to make to back it up. I have a lot of every elaborate ideas in my head, but I think for the 0.0.2 release it will be enough for the players to get through a basic fight, and also what comes after (aka the fun part).

I need to make a graphic for every possible combination of ladies for each position. currently there are 16 positions, and several more will be added for "post fight" finishing moves (aka the fun part). I should probably throw up a spreadsheet so you can all see me making progress on these things, but first I need to finish the action classes, so I know exactly what assets need making. Hopefully that will be done by this time next week. I'll keep you posted.
